A weekend on the French riviera!

Nice is on the South-Eastern coast of France, not very far from Cannes or St Tropez. Blue seas, white beaches...when they are not cobblestones and fantastic weather during the season. There is plenty to do there, what with artists peddling their trade on the streets, street vendors selling hot sugar/chocolate coated nuts and some of the best restaurants I have eaten in.

This is the beach...cobblestones and all!

I took the Friday off work and landed at about 3pm. The weather was definitely a change from London and I felt a lot more at home in some real heat. The hotel was situated just a short walk from "La Promenade des Anglais" which is the long road running all the length of the main beach in Nice.

That night, dinner was in a restaurant literally right on the beach and I was treated to some very fine seafood dishes (eat yer heart out Dad!). The restaurant was so close to the sea that I was actually concerned about getting wet. Well, that didn't happen, but I had an amazing meal.

The back streets of the city harbour a wealth of intreaguing shops and restaurants. Everywhere you go, one can smell crepes being cooked and garlic aplenty. There is quite a strong Italian influence in the city due to its proximity to the Italian border. As a result, you can also pick up genuine Italian Gelatte (ice-cream) and Panini. There are a lot of little stalls too where you can buy paintings or glass ornaments made by some obviously very highly skilled tradesmen...or women...see, not such a chauvanist mom!

Le Cours Saleya...I had dinner here one of the evenings.

This is one of the trips that I highly recommend anybody to go on. There is something for everybody and as everyone appreciates food, even the most sedate of people will crack a smile over the goods. Considering I never made it round to a Crepe Suzette, I will definitely be going back!
